The Robert Rogers Puppet Company, a premiere touring repertory
puppet theater, was established in1980. Since then it has presented a wide-ranging
array
of plays throughout the United States and around the world. Specializing in plays for
young people, the troupe has created and utilized hundreds of beautifully crafted string,
hand and rod puppets for performances in theaters, concert halls, museums, festivals and
schools.
The repertoire has included well known musical pieces such as Carnival
of the Animals, Peter and the Wolf and the unique Erroneous Encores for
performances with symphony orchestras; adaptations of Just So Stories, The
Nightingale and Stone Soup, and original productions such as Hobnobbin'
Goblins, and The Bugtown Follies.
From the workshop - located in Castle Creek, New York, about
three hours outside of New York City - have sprung a vast array of characters and stories
which have delighted audiences far and wide, from the Indianapolis Children's Museum to
the Beijing Children's Palace.
After two and a half decades and thousands of performances, the staging of each new
production - the making of each new puppet - is still an exciting challenge. Every
place of performance - whether it's an elementary school in Danbury, Connecticut, or the
Kinski Palace in Prague - is considered of equal importance, and every audience member, a
potential new friend.
Puppetry is both a visual and a performing art, by which puppeteers
can express themselves in the workshop as well as on the stage. The Robert Rogers
Puppet Company does both and has long been known and respected for the beautiful
craftsmanship and style of its puppets, the stories they dramatize and the extraordinary
way they are brought to "life."
