A soldier has been fighting in a battle far from home.  Finally, when given a chance to return, he begins a long and tiring journey by foot.  He soon comes upon a village, and seeks a little food and shelter. But none of the inhabitants - a little frightened and very selfish - will help.  So, using his self reliance, the soldier amazes everyone by cooking a most delicious soup with just a pot of boiling water and, yes, a simple stone.

This is a musical version of an old folk tale with roots in many countries around the world.  But no matter which version it is or which language the characters speak, the outcome is universal.

Trust, compassion, and generosity are the lessons learned by this deceptively funny tale.
